Coast 2 Coast - Day 14 - Columbus NM to El Paso TX

Another Day, Another State

Today we had a 77 mile trip, due east from Columbus NM, to finish the day in our fourth state of the tour - Texas!

The trip from Columbus was pleasant enough (though long), with comfortable temperatures, a reasonable head wind of no more that 10 mph, and a primarily flat route. However, it was among the most isolated trips we've ever taken.

After we left Columbus (which is a small town) we then had 60 miles of riding without ever seeing any single building, whether next to the road or in the distance. Even the mountains were far off in the distance. There was nothing except the road and our bicyclists (shown here at one of our SAG stops, where we had our lunch):

But the day ended with the return of civilization, and a border crossing, as we crossed the Rio Grande (though it's not very Grande here in El Paso):

Overall, it was 76.7 miles of riding, with an average speed of 11.1 mph, and a maximum of 23 mph.

Anne had one flat, so the score is now: Anne - 6 and Hance - 3.
