And then it was off to the 'Salad Bowl' of the southwest, where most of the US's vegetables are grown in the winter and early spring. All those lettuces and the cabbage related crops (kale, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts). Plus some rice, almonds, citrus, etc.
Today was our longest day so far - 71 miles - so we had 3 SAG stops, with the middle being the lunch stop, at Jac's Whistle Stop Cafe in Tacna AZ. Anne had a BLAST sandwich - Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Swiss cheese, and Tomato - while Hance had a bowl of Hobo soup. It was delicious.
Then, after the last SAG stop, it was back onto I-8 for the last 12 miles, for a quick, easterly, and fast finish into Dateland. Except... Anne got another flat about 2 miles from the Dateland exit, so that slowed us down for a bit.
Current score: Anne - 3 flats - Hance - 1 flat.
We compensated by having a 'date shake' when we got to Dateland.
And then, after dinner, there was, of course, an Arizonan sunset:
The ride was 71 miles, with an average speed of 12.8 mph and a maximum of 28 mph. Good, though long, riding.
