Coast 2 Coast - Day 15 - El Paso to Ft. Hancock

Our day started with a ride through El Paso, to go from the north side to the south, with a fair amount of rush hour traffic. But we were rewarded, as we diverted from the traffic through some of the local neighborhoods, with an overlook view of the center of the city:

We confirmed that we are now in Tex-Mex country when we stopped at a supermarket for a SAG stop, and found bins of dried chili peppers:

We then continued south, paralleling the Rio Grande, through irrigated farms with cotton and pecans. We didn't expect pecan farms in west Texas:

The towns are still few and far between, so we took advantage of a lunch at Fredo-Z's, in Fabens TX:

We finished our ride in Ft. Hancock, staying indoors in the local high school's gymnasium. Because we cannot have any beer or wine when on school property, our late afternoon snack and dinner was held at the Ft. Hancock Community Church across the street:

We had yet another headwind today - about 10 mph out of the east. We did 63.4 miles, at an average speed of 10.6 mph, with a maximum of 26 mph.

We hoping for a change of wind direction for tomorrow.

Oh, and NO FLATS today.

Also, we could tell that we are now in Texas, as we were chased by three dogs today.
