Coast 2 Coast - Day 26 - Lockhart to La Grange

Hills and Winds - 2

The cold front that went through produced 30 mph gusts out of the north through the night, rattling our tents at the campgrounds. The day dawned cold and blustery, and we wondered where the good weather had gone.

It was the morning of March 31, and March was ending as a lion.

Nevertheless, we were up and going, after a breakfast of oatmeal and other assorted items, and headed out into the cold day.

The wind was coming from the north-north-west and we were heading to the east-north-east, so sometimes we had a headwind and sometimes a tailwind, but mostly a crosswind.

And yes, we were still in Texas hill country, with the usual ups and downs.

So we went on and on.

We were on some back country roads, so the traffic was minimal, and we got to see lots of Texas wildflowers:

Being on the back roads we didn't see much other than the road ahead of us and the farm vistas to the sides:

The last 15 miles, after lunch, sent us more to the north, so we had to end our ride with a full headwind. But we ended our ride in La Grange TX, a town made famous by a ZZ Top song from the 70's.

Overall we rode for 62.6 miles at an average speed of 10.8 mph with a maximum of 24 mph. We had no flats and one Texas dog.
