Hills and Winds
We continued through Texas Hill Country, though the hills were not as severe today. Indeed, at several parts of our trip we were on the more typical version of 'country roads'. This was a mixed blessing, as there were fewer hills to contend with, but there was more traffic (and it was a Saturday, and we're halfway between Austin and San Antonio) and the roads were just two lanes with minimal shoulders.
For the most part the Texas drivers were considerate of the bicyclists, often slowing down and waiting for a clear road ahead before passing us.
But we didn't get many opportunities to stop and enjoy the views along the way, other than the usual ranches and farms:
Our lunch stop was at the 'Texas Pie Company' in Kyle TX (we had sandwiches). They had a copy of our unofficial slogan "It's all good" on their wall.
Our trip continued into the corn country of Texas (what does it mean if the corn is 8" high by the end of March?):
as well as oil country (that's an oil well in the distance):
The other town that we went through was Lockhart, which is the county seat and therefore has another ornate courthouse:
While we were at our lunch stop, a cold front came through, with a passing shower, and a sudden change to a cold 20 mph wind from the northwest. Which meant that we had a tailwind for the last 20 miles of our ride (Yeah!).
Overall we rode for 63.6 miles at an average speed of 12.3 mph and a maximum of 31 mph. We had no flats and no Texas dogs.
