Rest Day 1 - Gear Report - Hance's bike

Each rest day we'll try to have a report on gear, or logistics, or other sundry topics.

For the first Rest Day, let's look at Hance's bike:

Hance's bike is a Trek 7200 hybrid, aluminum frame bicycle with a total of 21 gears. Being a 'hybrid' bike it has wider tires and a front suspension, so it can ride on gravel paths as well as roads (though not as quickly as a road bike).

Hance bought it in 2002, upon his first return from living in Japan, so it's a 17 year old bike, with a lot of riding experience.

This bike has gone on:

  • The Erie Canal - Buffalo to Albany (2 times)
  • Hudson Valley Pedal - Albany to NYC (2 times)
  • Bon Ton Roulet - The Finger Lakes (3 times)
  • ACA Freedom Ride -  Philadephia to Washington via Valley Forge, Gettysburg and Antietam (once)
  • ACA Vermont Mountains - loop from Burlington VT through the Northeast Kingdom (once)
  • Nova Scotia Lighthouse Tour - southern Nova Scotia (once)
  • Florida Keys - Key Largo to Key West in 2 days (once)

and now is on its way across the US.
